God has been conceived as a paradigm of sovereignty, Moses as a paradigm of leadership, justice, and democracy, David and Solomon as paradigms of monarchy, the organization of the Hebrew tribes before kingship as a paradigm of anarchy, and Job as the paradigm of the scapegoat. The Course will survey some of the most intriguing political readings of the Bible, from Hobbes and Spinoza to Freud, Buber, Strauss, and Girard.
