The Department of Near Eastern Studies offers graduate programs leading to the M. A. and Ph.D. degrees in Arabic, Hebrew, and Persian languages and literatures, Near Eastern Archaeology, Art History, Cuneiform, Hebrew Bible, Biblical and Judaic Studies, Old Iranian Studies, Egyptology, and Islamic Studies.
Graduate Degree Programs
The M.A. in International and Area Studies, Middle East track, is open to students already matriculated in one of Berkeley’s professional schools or academic graduate programs, who extend their studies by one or two years for supplemental area studies training. This program allows students to add a Middle East component to their graduate or professional training.
The Department of History offers an M.A. and a Ph.D. with a formal track in the History of the Middle East.
