Fīhi Naẓar Reading Group

Fīhi Naẓar is a graduate reading group where participants engage in a close reading of major Arabic-Islamic sources in rationalist fields such as philosophy, logic, physics, dialectics, legal theory, etc. The weekly group meets on campus during the fall and spring semesters, and via Zoom over the summer. The participants must have an advanced grasp of classical Arabic. Since this is a closed group engaged in deep reading of specialized material, participation is subject to the approval of the CMES. Please contact the Group Organizer S. Shiraz Ali at ali_syed@berkeley.edu
The group is currently reading the assents (taṣdīqāt) section of Taḥrīr al-qawāʿid, the major commentary by Quṭb al-Dīn Taḥtānī on Najm al-Dīn Kātibī's work on logic, the Shamsiyya.
