These
annual fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis to incoming
and continuing graduate students. They provide for payment both of
tuition fees and a generous stipend. Students study a modern Middle
East language and/or undertake course work that supports their research
program. Fellowships are awarded for both year-long and summer programs.
CMES administers the selection process for FLAS fellows, while Berkeley's
Graduate Division disperses the funds. Most recently, CMES has funded
seven annual fellowships and five-to-six summer fellowships.
