Every Friday the CMES hosts an informal guided discussion of current events in the Middle East and North Africa, open to all.

On 23 September, UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief Ahmed Shaheed released a report on the “Elimination of All Forms of Religious Intolerance.” The report notes the rise of anti-Semitism worldwide, pointing to the fatal attacks on synagogues in Pittsburgh and San Diego. The rise of anti-Semitism can also be linked to the rise of religious intolerance across the globe, from the persecution of Yazidis to attacks on Coptic churches in Egypt and on mosques in Canada, New Zealand, and Norway. In this week’s Salon, we will discuss the freedom of belief (or non-belief) at home and abroad.
