Program Components and Eligibility
UC Berkeley faculty, lecturers, and graduate students may apply for funding in the following categories:
1. Research Grants
Up to $2000 to cover the cost of travel for modern Middle Eastern language study, dissertation research, or faculty projects.
2. Conference Grants
Up to $600 to cover to cover the cost of travel to attend conferences in the U.S. and up to $1,500 for conferences abroad. Please note that this funding applies to airfare only.
Please note that both types of grants are disbursed as reimbursements.
The application deadline for the fall competition is Wednesday, November 1, 2017. The fall competition covers travel between October 1, 2017 and Spring Break 2018.
A complete application includes 1) Your name, department, address, phone, email, and UCB ID number; 2) A short statement (1-2 pages) describing the research project, or an abstract of your accepted conference paper; 3) The letter of acceptance and/or conference program in which the paper appears; 4) A complete project budget indicating the total amount of funding that you are requesting. Include an airfare price quote from a travel agent or website, and please note any other funding sources to which you have applied, including Committee on Research funding; 5) A letter of recommendation (graduate students only).
Please include your name on every page of the application. Applications should be submitted as a single PDF via email to email@example.com with “Mellon Application Fall 2017” in the subject line.
