It is with regret that CMES announces the passing of Professor Kiren Aziz Chaudhry (1959-2020), a world-renowned scholar and political scientist.  She was laid to rest in her father’s home village in Pakistan.  Professor Chaudhry was born in Pakistan on March 17, 1959 and as a young child travelled to the neighboring village, often by horseback, to attend school.  Her remarkable educational journey culminated in a PhD from Harvard University.  In addition to holding a faculty position at UC Berkeley, she taught at many renowned research universities globally and received awards for her scholarly work and publications.  Notably, she was awarded Prytanean Alumnae Faculty Award, and a SSRC-MacArthur Foundation Peace and Security Fellowship.  Professor Chaudhry’s magnum opus The Price of Wealth: Economies and Institutions in the Middle East (Cornell, 1997) won the Albert Hourani Prize.
