Program Components and Eligibility
UC Berkeley faculty, lecturers, academic staff, and graduate students may apply for funding in the following categories:
1. Research Grants
Up to $2,000 to cover the cost of travel for modern Middle Eastern language study, dissertation research, or faculty projects.
2. Conference Grants
Up to $600 to cover the cost of travel to attend conferences in the U.S. and up to $1,500 for conferences abroad. Please note that this funding applies to airfare only.
Application Deadline
The application deadline for the 2023-2024 competition is Wednesday, January 31, 2024
To Apply
A complete application includes 1) Your name, department, address, phone, email, and UCB ID number; 2) A short statement (1-2 pages) describing the research project, or an abstract of your accepted conference paper; 3) The letter of acceptance and/or conference program in which the paper appears; 4) A complete project budget indicating the total amount of funding that you are requesting. Include an airfare price quote from a travel agent or website, and please note any other funding sources to which you have applied, including Committee on Research funding; 5) A letter of recommendation (graduate students only).
