CMES announces new grants to support the formation of graduate student working groups focused on topics related to the study of the Middle East and North Africa. Multiple grants of $1,000 are available to fund groups’ activities. Any relevant subject matter is eligible, although preference is given to working groups that bring together students from different departments and disciplines.
Deadline: Nov. 1
To apply, please submit a brief description (4 page max.) of the proposed group, its area of focus and approach, its participants, and a detailed plan for the group’s activities for the 2026-27 academic year, including use of funds.
Please submit application statement as an attachment to cmes@berkeley.edu with “Grad Working Group” in the subject line. Deadline to apply is Nov. 1. For the 2027-28 academic year, please apply by Apr. 1.
